This Obama-backing liberal will be pulling the lever for Chris Christie this year, and it sure looks like a whole lot of other New Jersey residents will be doing the same.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed Mr. Christie beating Democratic Gov. Jon S. Corzine by 44 percent to 38 percent. Hopefully the poll’s results are indicative of growing disgust with corruption-ridden officialdom among Garden Staters.
Mr. Christie, like most politicians, is no angel himself.
He appears to have used his office ‘s investigatory powers in a rather political manner in many instances, and he made other questionable judgment calls during his time as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey.
That being said, it does appear that Gov. Jon S. Corzine is not equipped to deal with the festering politics that permeate much of the state. He has not delivered on promised ethics reform and financial restructuring, both of which were central to the campaign he ran against Doug Forrester a few years ago.
Mr. Christie might not deliver either, but he at least deserves a shot at bringing his corruption-busting skills to the state’s highest executive office.
He may be able to make inroads against the status quo without reference to Democratic party bosses or the other obstacles that appear to have blocked Gov. Corzine from making good on his promises.
It already looks like many people in New Jersey feel the same way.
