The City of Trenton held funeral services at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Warren Street for fallen firefighter Manny Rivera Saturday morning, nearly two months after the hero slipped into a heart attack-induced coma while rescuing a city resident from a Washington Street fire.
Flags in the city have been flown at half- since Mr. Rivera’s death on Tuesday.
Citywide services were held for the hero on Friday as well.
Over 2,ooo mourners were expected for the Saturday funeral, which concluded with Mr. Rivera’s burial in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
The funeral happened the same day that a Pittsburgh resident opened fire on police officers with an assault rifle, killing three of them, and a Vietnamese immigrant in Binghamton, N.Y. killed 14 during a siege at an immigrants’ center in the upstate city.
We live in a violent world where everything can change at a moment’s notice.
Keep Mr. Rivera, the Pittsburgh police officers, and all others whose lives have ended a bit too early in your prayers.
