The disappearance of millions in personal pension contributions from Trenton’s police and fire personnel was laid at the feet of the state government by city officials Friday.
Acting Business Administrator Dennis Gonzalez told The Times of Trenton that a state-imposed deadline for updating pension information could not be met by city workers, and that therefore it’s the state’s fault that public safety personnel can’t access their own money.
Such a ridiculous answer from an adult would normally be dumbfounding, but it comes as no surprise from a Palmer administration official.
In another government or the private sector such an answer would likely be met with at least the threat of termination, but we have to remember this is Trenton, and city officials are accountable neither to the public nor public servants.
2010 can’t come soon enough.
